• Low murder rate makes UAE one of safest nations

    Top officials discuss security-related National Agenda goals.Dubai: The average rate of murders in the UAE stands at just 0.3 per cent for every 100,000 people, making the country one of the safest in the world, officials said.

    Lt-General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai, said the rate of murders was very low.

    “The rate of premediated murders in the country is 0.3 per cent for every 100,000 people. It is a figure making the country the safest worldwide,” Lt-Gen Tamim said during a meeting with members of the executive committee of the Government Accelerators Programme compiling the National Agenda Indexes.

    The meeting, which was attended by members of the executive team of security accelerators comprising police leaders and officials in the UAE’s security departments, discussed the main indexes that can lead to achieving the National Agenda’s goals as well as the major challenges and suitable solutions.

    Major-General Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, presented his response to the “National Emergency Cases” index, while Major-General Dr Abdul Qudoos Al Obaidly, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Quality and Excellence of Dubai Police, highlighted the general sense of safety and their most important challenges and potential solutions. ?Major-General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs of Dubai Police and head of the Federal Traffic Council, presented the “Deaths in Traffic Accidents per 100,000 Persons” index and the main challenges in the field.

    Lt-Gen Dahi Khalfan said the number of deaths on UAE roads should be brought down by 50 per cent this year and called for unifying the traffic campaigns and procedures in the country to get the best results.

    The meeting came in line with the instructions of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to accelerate the process of achieving the National Agenda goals and meet all targets by 2021.

    The meeting also follows the directives of Lt-General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to implement the Government Accelerators Programme in all indexes of the Ministry of Interior’s departments to guarantee efficient performance and promote the quality of life in the UAE community.
