• Pakistani kid wins gold in global mathematics competition

    Syed Jaffar Raza beat 600 other participants.Islamabad: An exceptionally bright student and a mathematical genius from Pakistan, Syed Jaffar Raza, has won the gold medal at an international maths competition, beating 600 participants.

    Speaking at the Global Business Forum Latin America 2018, Juan Carlos Varela, President of Panama, said while Dubai is the centre for the Middle East, Africa and India, Panama plays the same role in Latin America.

    Raza was one of the six participating students from Pakistan who won medals at the International Math Challenge VII held at the Pan-Asia International School in Bangkok.

    The students of PakTurk International School Lahore brought home one gold medal, three silver and three bronze medals. They attended the competition with their mentor and Vice Principal Khalid Zeeshan.

    “Middle Section students win one gold, three silver and three bronze medals in International Math Challenge VII Bangkok Thailand,” PakTurk School proudly shared on social media. The school administration congratulated parents, teachers and especially the students on the accomplishment.

    A total of 180 teams belonging to 17 countries from around the world, including Romania, Cambodia, and Sri Lanka, competed at the event. The contest was held from February 22-24.

    The International Math Challenge aims to encourage students to study and excel in maths and critical thinking.

    “Pakistan is not known for its expertise in math. But this global competition has not only highlighted the talent of Pakistani students but also give them a chance to excel at the most interesting subject in the world,” said Zehra Nayyar, a mathematics teacher in Islamabad.
